The Tire Labeling Challenge

What Tire Manufacturers Demand

Survive 200°C+ Vulcanization

Labels applied to green tires must withstand the full curing cycle — extreme heat, pressure, and chemical exposure — without delaminating, fading, or losing barcode scannability.

DOT / ECE / EU Regulatory Compliance

Sidewall information, UTQG ratings, and EU 2020/740 tyre labels are mandated by law in export markets. Non-compliant labelling means market access denied.

WIP Barcode Traceability

Modern tire plants track every tire by barcode from bead assembly through final inspection. Labels must remain scannable through mold pressure, heat, and abrasion — from green tire to finished product.

Zero-Defect OEM Requirements

Tier-1 OEMs audit their label suppliers. A single label failure on their production line means a line shutdown and a corrective action. Your label supplier must run to the same zero-defect standard you do.

High-Volume Batch Consistency

Tire plants consume tens of thousands of labels per SKU per run. Every batch must be dimensionally identical, print-perfect, and adhesion-tested — with no variation between delivery #1 and delivery #1,000.

Retread Certification Marking

The retreading sector requires labels to bond to aged, contaminated rubber carcasses — a far more demanding adhesion challenge than virgin green rubber — while meeting DOT retread certification requirements.

FAQ

Questions from Tire Manufacturing Procurement Teams

What types of labels does decal.asia supply for tire manufacturers?

We supply the full range of tire manufacturing labels: pre-cure bead barcode labels (vulcanization-ready), sidewall branding and specification decals, retail tread labels (UTQG, EU 2020/740 tyre labels), in-process WIP tracking labels, retread certification labels, and warehouse/shipping labels. All products are available in both standard and custom-engineered formats to meet OEM specifications.

Do your labels survive the vulcanization process at high temperature and pressure?

Yes — this is our core capability. Our pre-cure vulcanization labels are specifically engineered to withstand tire curing conditions of 170°C–200°C+ and 10+ bar autoclave pressure. We use rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesives that chemically bond with the tire rubber during curing, producing a permanent attachment that cannot be removed without damaging the tire. Barcodes remain fully scannable post-cure, verified to AIAG M-110 grade.

Are your bead labels compatible with both natural rubber and synthetic tire compounds?

Yes. Our vulcanization labels are formulated and tested for compatibility with both natural rubber (NR) and the synthetic compounds commonly used in tire manufacturing — including SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber), EPDM, and blended compounds. Adhesion performance is validated against your specific compound formulation during the qualification process. We maintain separate adhesive formulations optimized for different rubber families.

What barcode formats do you support for tire WIP traceability?

We support all major barcode symbologies used in tire manufacturing: Code 128 (the most common for tire bead labels), Data Matrix, QR Code, PDF417, and GS1-128. We also offer RFID-integrated hybrid labels supporting ISO 18000-6C / EPC Gen 2 / RAIN RFID at UHF frequencies. All barcodes are verified to AIAG M-110 or AIAG B-11 grade before shipment, and we can print to your plant's ERP/MES system data requirements.

Do your tire labels comply with EU Regulation 2020/740 for tyre labelling?

Yes. Our EU tyre labels are compliant with Regulation 2020/740, which replaced the earlier Regulation 1222/2009 from May 2021. We produce tread labels displaying all mandatory parameters: fuel efficiency class (A–E), wet grip class (A–E), external rolling noise (dB and class), ice grip indicator, snow grip indicator, and mandatory QR code linking to the EU EPREL product database. Labels are available in all EU language variants and GS1-standard formats.

Are you IATF 16949 certified? Can you supply to OEM specification?

Yes. decal.asia holds IATF 16949 certification — the mandatory quality management standard for automotive and tire OEM supply chains. We are an approved supplier to Tier-1 manufacturers including Bridgestone and Michelin, which means we already operate within the most demanding quality, traceability, and documentation requirements in the industry. We can supply to customer-specific OEM specifications, including custom artwork, barcode formats, adhesive specifications, and packaging requirements.

What is the minimum order quantity for tire plant labels?

Minimum order quantities depend on label type, construction, and specification. We accommodate both high-volume OEM production runs (100K+ labels per order) and smaller qualification or specialist orders. For initial qualification testing, we offer pre-production sample sets at no minimum. Contact our technical sales team for a detailed quote — we will recommend the most cost-effective format for your volume and production frequency.

How quickly can you fulfill reorders to keep our production line running?

Standard lead times for reorders range from 1–3 weeks depending on label specification and current production schedule. We offer an inventory management program for high-volume customers where we maintain buffer stock and trigger automatic replenishment at agreed inventory levels — eliminating the risk of production line stoppages due to label shortages. Urgent orders can be accommodated with expedited production.

Can you handle retread manufacturers as well as OEM tire producers?

Yes. We serve both OEM tire manufacturers and the retread sector. Our retread vulcanization labels use higher-tack adhesive formulations specifically designed to bond to aged, contaminated, and irregular rubber carcass surfaces — which present far greater adhesion challenges than virgin green rubber. These labels provide permanent identification and DOT compliance marking through the full retreading curing cycle.

How do your labels perform on the curved bead surface vs. flat tread areas?

The tire bead area is one of the most demanding label application surfaces — it has a small radius curve, is made of high-durometer rubber compound, and goes through extreme mechanical stress during tire mounting and demounting. Our bead labels are die-cut to precise bead curvature specifications and use flexible facestock and adhesive systems engineered for conformability on this surface. Tread labels use different constructions optimized for the flat, smoother tread surface and different performance requirements.
